Hello lovelies,
I could and nearly did write an essay on my own relationship to the Catholic Church and why I wrote this story. Instead, I condensed it down into this.
I want to repeat that this story is not an endorsement of or an advertisement for Catholicism.
I try to keep the stories I write for this series religion free because the religion I know the most about is Christianity, and it has been used to harm a lot of queer people.
I wrote this story because I needed to process some of my own Catholic upbringing. Writing this story brought me to tears several times because it uses bible verses I heard to affirm someone rather than to pull them down.
I absolutely recognize that not everyone will want to read and engage with this story. I’m publishing it for myself. I’m publishing it for anyone else who thinks this will help them heal (or who wants to read about a queer religious person).
